I have been through this a couple of times and the worst thing is feeling


like you have to make that decision for them. My first rule is I didn't want to do anything that would just prolong the agony. Since the ultrasound is noninvasive, I would ask the vet if it will truly help drive the decision of whether anything could be done. Sure, they might be able to see a tumor but will they be able to tell if surgery will fix the problem. It might at least give you better peace of mind about the decision. Reading your story, it is obvious your dog has done well being part of your family. I hope things work out.
